Honest materials in a room designed for conversation.

This Seattle living room remodel was guided by a simple but powerful principle. Materials should be used where they are most appropriate, and their nature should never be hidden. Wood should feel like wood. Wool should provide warmth and texture. Metal should offer strength and clarity. The result is a layered, tactile interior rooted in honest materials and thoughtful design.

The clients, a professional couple, needed a flexible living room that supports daily life and entertaining. The front door opens directly into the living space, so the room had to feel welcoming immediately while also accommodating reading, watching television, yoga, and hosting friends and family. Careful space planning ensured clear circulation paths while defining zones for conversation and relaxation.

A custom sofa, made in the USA, anchors the seating area. Its tailored lines provide structure, while deep cushions invite comfort. Paired with two American made leather chairs, the seating arrangement balances durability with refinement. The leather will age beautifully over time, reinforcing the commitment to high quality materials that improve with use rather than wear out.

Underfoot, a vintage rug introduces pattern and history. Wool textiles throughout the space add softness and acoustic warmth. Solid wood elements ground the room and bring a sense of permanence. Metal accents provide contrast and subtle edge without overpowering the natural palette.

A vintage British mid century modern sideboard offers storage and character. It bridges eras effortlessly, introducing modern lines into a space defined by texture and craftsmanship. Above and around it, beloved artwork by Seattle artist Ilana Zweschi adds depth, color, and personality. The art integrates seamlessly into the design, elevating the room while reflecting the clients’ appreciation for meaningful, collected pieces.

Every finish and furnishing was selected with longevity in mind. This is a living room designed to adapt. It works for a quiet evening with a book, a morning yoga session, or a full house of guests. By prioritizing natural materials, American made craftsmanship, and intentional layout, this Seattle living room remodel demonstrates how thoughtful interior design can create a space that is flexible, grounded, and enduring.
